Beachwaver social media editor Katie here! If there’s one thing I’m good at when it comes to my hair, it’s creating the illusion of fuller, thicker, gram-worthy locks on my fine, straighter-than-a-stick hair. Of course my trusty Beachwaver S.75 has helped (textured waves = instant volume). But I have a few other tricks up my sleeve on days when my hair could use some extra help. Below, I’m sharing some of my favorite tips for giving fine hair that bombshell volume we all crave—no stylist required.
1. Use Dry Shampoo
My favorite trick for adding instant volume to my style is with some dry shampoo (Second Chance Dry Shampoo is my fave). Not only does it keep my style going strong all day, it instantly gives me a boost of volume and texture! I like to spray Second Chance at my roots before and/or after I Beachwave. I love it because it doesn’t leave any white residue (something I haven’t been able to find in any other dry shampoo0!) Tip: make sure to lift up a layer of your hair, spray underneath (about 3 or 4 inches from the root), then use your fingers to rub it in.
Bonus! It’s Beachwaver Dry Shampoo Day, meaning today only you can get Second Chance for $10!
2. Try This Beachwaver Trick
For a boost of volume at my roots, I hold my hair at a higher angle when curling, which allows me to get closer to my root. When Beachwaving fine hair, use a smaller barrel, like the Beachwaver S.75 (available in our Deep Dive sale!), which will create the most texture—giving you the appearance of fuller, thicker hair!
3. Backcomb, Backcomb, Backcomb!
Still need a little more oomph? Get out your favorite teasing brush, and backcomb, baby! Tip: when backcombing, don’t move your brush up AND down. Instead, start 2 or 3 inches from your root, and push down in short strokes, then lift the brush back to your starting point and repeat. Don’t forget to gently smooth your hair when you’re done!
Voilà! Three steps to instant volume and fullness!
